Duke and Durham

Duke University Medical Center is comprised of 90 buildings, occupying 7.5 million square feet on 210 acres in Durham, North Carolina. We are consistently ranked among the top ten health care organizations in the country and were the 7th-best medical center in the United States from among 5,462 medical centers by U.S. News & World Report in the last decade.  It’s no coincidence that Durham is known as the “City of Medicine”.

Durham is located in central North Carolina within easy driving distance of both beaches and mountains!  Along with Raleigh and Chapel Hill, Durham is located in what is called the “Research Triangle” , home to major universities, technology companies and over 2 million residents.  There are many reasons people are moving to the Triangle!

The Duke University information page on Durham is a great place to plan a visit and get practical information about living in the Durham areas.  Check out some info on local food, culture, weather and housing data!

Discover Durham has a “Welcome to Durham” video and their website is filled with great information on things to do, including a Walking Tour of Durham if you decide to come for a visit!

This 360-degree tour of Durham is almost a “Google Earth” view of Durham.  The place we’ve selected to start is Duke gardens, very close to the hospital campus.  If you spin around, our campus is to the right of the Duke Chapel – just look for the cranes building our new tower (now completed!).  You can click on locations and the helicopter icons will take you to other parts of town.  Pro tip: if you click on the chapel, it will link you to the basketball hall of fame and Cameron Indoor Stadium!

Living in Durham doesn’t require you to be a basketball fan, but we’ll likely wear you down!  We sport the only proper color of blue in the state of North Carolina, despite what our friends 8 miles away in Chapel Hill might think!

We’re not all about basketball, though!  We have the Durham BullsCarolina Hurricanes and North Carolina FC locally, along with The Carolina Panthers, Charlotte Hornets and several minor league sports teams a short drive away!

It’s not *all* about sports, though. There are plenty of things to feed your desire for art and culture in Durham, Raleigh and even Chapel Hill
